Fantastic Friday: Witch Class in D&D, Addendum
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4
Timothy S. Brannan did the 2E Netbook I mentioned before and has been writing witch supplements for OSR games more recently. He's got a lot of info on his blog, The Other Side blog. He's also done something of note, statting out various "Witch Queens" in various systems for what sounds like a great campaign, "The War of the Witch Queens." He's got stats for Circe, Morgan le Fay, and Baba Yaga, as well as more recent iconic witches such as Iggwilv (from Greyhawk) and Seoni (the iconic Pathfinder witch). His blog is chock-full of great witchy stuff and is a good read if this is the kind of thing you're into.
Dump Stat Adventures has a blog that delves into D&D history and lore and covers adventures and supplements they release. They have a "Deep Dive" series where they delve into one monster or class and look at versions in the editions of D&D. Recently they did a "Deep Dive -- Warlock Class" which looks at a lot of the same sources I did, but from the warlock side of things. They've also done a "Deep Dive -- The Hag" which looks at the witch-adjacent hag monster in the various D&D editions. Well worth the read, and the rest of the "Deep Dive" series is highly recommended for the curious.
[UPDATE 2023-05-22] I totally missed a post from Oakes Spalding on the Save Versus All Wands blog, which covered most of the early D&D witches.
Sorry. typos.
ReplyDeleteExcellent! Thanks for the shout out. I added this page to my page of external witch links (might be redundant though). https://theotherside.timsbrannan.com/p/witches.html
Redundancy is fine. The internet is a vast sea of chaotic knowledge; there's no telling at what point in the trail someone might pick it up. This way, they can find all the things!
